A-Z of Online Shopping Sites

Special Offers

Online Shopping is quick and convenient, which can provide you with savings from a few pounds to many thousands depend on what you are buying.

The reason things are cheaper on the Net is that a company can operate with lower overheads by trading online, with no expensive high street premises to rent, less administration and  fewer employees. These savings can be passed on to the consumers.

Here at My Info Site we have put together plenty of information about online shopping, info and links to online shops and special offers etc...

Its not ideal for every type of product, but in many cases online shopping is incomparably better than the real-world alternative. In no market, mall or arcade will you find so much choice or, just as importantly, advice and information. You can sift large inventories in seconds, read reviews, get details of the latest products or receive recommendations based on your tastes.

How It Works
Shopping's the same the world over, you choose what you want to buy, head to the check out, pay for your items and carry your goods home. That's also how it works online - except you don't have to carry the goods home. On most sites you start by either browsing or searching, and then add items to a virtual shopping basket. You can usually click on the shopping basket at any time to see what you've got in your basket and how much it is costing you. You will be able to add and remove items as you please.

When your ready to check out, you'll be prompted to create a new account (if you haven't already shopped their before) and enter your personal and payment details. You will then be prompted to make your payment. Once you've shopped at a site, you'll probably only have to enter your username and password next time you return. Almost all shops send you an instant email confirming your order after you have passed through the checkout. We recommend you keep these emails until you have received your order at least.

Shop Safe
Shopping online is now a standard part of life for millions, but some people still worry about the risk of fraud and rip-off merchants. With talk of organized online crime and identity theft on the rise, the concern is understandable. But as long as you use legitimate sites and follow the basic rules laid out below, you're very unlikely to have any problems. Indeed, using your credit card online should be no riskier than using it on the high street, where every-part-time waiter and shop assistant has direct access to your card details.

  • Use your Common sense: If anything at all seems fishy about a site, don't shop there. Avoid sites that haven't gone to the effort of registering their own domain name.

  • Look for a street address and phone number: If you can't find out how to get in touch with a real person at a real address, them tread carefully. An email address isn't enough; and a free email address, like Hotmail, spells trouble. Mind you, failure to display a phone number doesn't make them instantly suspect. It's an all-too-common omission on even the best-known sites.

  • Only enter card details on secure WebPages: When a webpage is secure, the beginning of the address reads https:// rather than http:// and a little closed lock symbol appears on your browser window. If you're concerned about a sites security, shop elsewhere or phone through your order.

  • Never send your credit card details by email: It's asking for trouble.

  • Don't give extra information: To make an online purchase you should only need to provide your name, billing address, delivery address, credit card number, account name, expiry date and, sometimes, the three-digit security code on the signature strip. You should never need any other form of identification such as your national insurance, driving licence or passport number.

  • Don't let browsers "remember" your passwords: Even if you only shop from a home computer, always choose the "Not now" or "Never" option if prompted when entering store login and password details. This is even more paramount when using machines in public spaces such as libraries and cafes.

  • Don't believe everything you read: As much as the Net is the greatest source of consumer advice, it's also a great source of misinformation. Seek out a second opinion before you buy on the basis of a recommendation.
