Our country is on the brink of a
recession - well, if you listen to the press, we are! The
problem with situations like this, and the so-called
credit crunch, is that a lot of the speculation is
fuelled by rumours. A story will get out in the papers, and
on the TV, and people start to panic...
People in general will believe what they
are told; if presented to them often enough, and if the
information comes from a 'viable' source - newspaper, TV,
radio and the likes. Most often, the reality is that such
stories make good news - they sell papers and get the
general public tuning into their TV channels.
The fact of the matter is, if there were
no tabloids, or TV, the majority of these 'problems' would
not exist. In fact, it would not surprise us if this 'credit
crunch' was the result of government actions to increase
their revenue.
This whole credit crunch seems to have
come around due to the collapse of the housing market in the
USA. When many mortgage providers offered loans to millions
of people who had absolutely no chance of paying them back.
Then, the debts were sold onto other financial bodies, and
banks in the United Kingdom - hence the Northern Rock
fiasco.
Now, the chances of getting a loan, or
a mortgage are slim - and all because banks got greedy!
If we are on the brink of a recession,
and of course the more playful word for it is now credit
crunch, then it has all materialised due to greed, and
the banks that we rely on, becoming irresponsible by
entering into transactions with other banking organisations
that had not done their jobs properly, or correctly assessed
the risk factors of lending to millions of people who would
not pay that money back.
It seems, that these factors have been
forgotten about by the general public, and the true reality
of why our country is now in this position, hidden under the
carpet.
